Challenge
A retail group needed tokenized loyalty that works at checkout speed without forcing every shopper to manage seed phrases. Points had to issue in under two seconds at the till, survive Saturday-rush load, and remain portable for members who later go crypto-native.
Solution
Gasless ERC-20 points with embedded wallets for shoppers and WalletConnect for crypto-native members, backed by a reconciled issuance ledger. Cashiers trigger issuance from the POS; the member sees points before leaving the counter.
Architecture
ERC-20 points contracts on Polygon with an off-chain issuance service, The Graph indexer for balances, and WalletConnect plus embedded-wallet checkout. The issuance ledger reconciles against chain state every five minutes, with replayable delivery for any missed event.
Results
1.2M wallets created in the first two quarters, 340ms median balance reads, and 99.98% issuance success through peak season — with support contacts about missing points down by two thirds.
